Telehealth and Ecotherapy

Meet with me via phone or video conference.

Virtual therapy means that we meet online, where therapy is conducted via a confidential, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform or by phone.

Although online therapy is relatively new, the research shows that it can be as effective as face-to-face therapy for some people in some situations.

Many people do a blend, choosing to meet me in person when they can and to meet virtually when time or distance makes coming to the office impossible.

However, I encourage you to meet me in person for our first session, as it helps you to get a sense of who I am and whether I will be a good fit for you.

Make the most of virtual therapy.

Here are some tips:

  1. Use a computer, tablet, or phone connected to a strong Internet connection.
  2. Find a quiet, well-lit, indoor, private space. Close windows if there is noise outside and turn the music off.
  3. Make sure you are in a place where you can talk freely and where you will not be interrupted.
  4. Prop your device up so that you don’t have to hold it. When you’re hands-free, you’ll be able to focus more on the session, and I’ll be able to see you better.
  5. If you join in from your car, please make sure you are parked, never driving. Some clients sit in a parked car as a way of getting some privacy in a busy family home or the parking lot on their lunch break at work. Just make sure you have good cell service at your chosen location.

Online therapy isn’t for everyone.

Many people feel more able to connect, feel comfortable, and explore what is causing them pain when meeting me in person at my office.

Many people also find that life has gotten a bit too virtual and that meeting in person is much more intimate and helpful.

How do you know whether to meet virtually?

If your life is busy and getting to my office is difficult, online sessions are a good option.

Virtual sessions work well if you are very comfortable with the technology – talking on the phone or a video conference. Virtual sessions also work well if you have met me in my office and feel you know and trust me.

I’ll email you a private link to my virtual waiting room and meet you there! Or we can set up an old-fashioned phone call – some people find this less distracting than talking on a video call.

It’s really quite simple.

Lets get together. Give me a call, email me, or send me a message through the Contact form to get started

Getting Back to the Garden with Ecotherapy.

Ecotherapy means that we meet in a natural setting. Most often, we meet at a local state park on a shaded, quiet walking path. Sometimes, we will walk slowly and talk. Sometimes, we will sit on a shaded bench and talk. Sometimes, we will be silent and listen.

If you would like, we can kayak together slowly on protected, calm water that I know well.

Many of us have forgotten how to feel at home in the natural world – I can help you remember.

Ecotherapy is a chance to get away from the virtual world of phones and screens and man-made buildings.

Spending time in nature, in a setting where we feel safe, relaxed, and supported, is transformative – our nervous systems can settle down and switch from the reactive fight, flight, freeze mode to the responsive, attend, befriend, heal, and repair mode.

Many like to blend ecotherapy, meetings in the office, and virtual meetings.

“What I see for those who are wounded most importantly is to bring them into the forest, out into the world of the trees and the rocks and the clouds and the streams and let them live in this world of nature until they feel held by it, made of it, until they know themselves to be connected with it….And only when they come to know that they belong on this earth, can we begin….”
